Of course, she is played by the gifted and talented, Claire Danes.

I so love her!

"Mom, I Can Babysit"

Angela: "Mom, I've been alone with Danielle before."

Patty: "Yes, and I can't help but recall the time you put her in the dryer."

Angela: "Oh Mom! That was so long ago. I can't believe you're still talking about that...Anyway, she begged me to do it."

Patty: "Whoever's idea it was, I don't want to come home and find anyone in an appliance."

Imagined I'd Fall

"Love is when you look into someone's eyes and suddenly you go all the way inside, to their soul, and you both know instantly. I always imagined I'd fall in love nursing a blind soldier who was wounded in battle. Or maybe while rescuing someone in the middle of a blizzard, seconds before the avalanche hits. I thought at least by the age of 15 I'd have a love life, but I don't even have a _like_ life."

- Angela from an episode of My So-Called Life

My So-Called Life (the famous letter)

Dear Angela,

I know in the past I've caused you pain and I'm sorry. And I'll always be sorry 'till the day I die. And I hate this pen I'm holding because I should be holding you. I hate this paper under my hand because it isn't you. I even hate this letter because it's not the whole truth. Because the whole truth is so much more than a letter can even say. If you want to hate me, go ahead. If you want to burn this letter, do it. You could burn the whole world down; you could tell me to go to hell. I'd go, if you wanted me to. And I'd send you a letter from there.

Sincerely,

Jordan Catalano

- My So-Called Life television series

This is a sad letter but it's even more sad in the context of the show. Jordan wants to apologize to Angela but he can't do it. He also can't read or write very well so he enlists Brian to help him write it. Brian has always loved Angela and writes the letter pretty much in both he and Jordan's voice.

Can Make Any Man Desperate

Angela: "Why is dad playing catch with Brian Krakow?"

Patty: "I guess if you live with three women, that would make any man desperate."

- My So-Called Life

I wish I had a screen shot or a clip from this episode to share with you. Angela's dad, Graham was playing catch with his younger daughter on the front lawn. She quit when she saw Brian coming and Graham coaxed him into picking up the baseball glove.

There's the context for this quote between Angela and her mother as they only see the two guys playing catch.

My So-Called Life (autograph)

I always share with you quotes from this excellent television show. This week I wanted to share with you the most prized autograph in my collection.

I wrote Claire Danes a fan letter after watching the second episode of her amazing show "My So-Called Life."

Something about her left me awestruck. I had to write that letter. I became an immediate fan and looked forward to Thursday nights at 8:00 to watch her on that excellent series.

I was almost floored when I received this postcard in the mail a few months later. When I scanned it into the computer, I overlapped her message from the back of the card so you can see it beside her picture.
I love how she wrote "Best of Everything" and signed it with a heart. I always read it as "love Claire Danes."

I have had this postcard framed and in my room for years now. It is my most-prized autograph in my entire collection and I'm glad that I can share it with you here on Tube Tuesdays - bringing you quotes that I have pulled from television or movies.

Believe it or not, I still have quotes to share with you from this awesome show. Please stay tuned.

People are Beautiful

"It's good to get really dressed up once in a while. And admit the truth: that when you really look closely? People are so strange and so complicated that they're actually... beautiful. Possibly even me."

Finally Going Somewhere

"What's amazing is when you can feel your life going somewhere. Like, your life just figured out how to get good. Like, that second."

- Angela from an episode of My So-Called Life

I've felt like this a few times in my life. I think life takes us where we need to be, and on some rare occasions we can actually feel that we are in the right place and that things will work out great.

Isn't that how we should feel more often?

The Dividing Line of Sex

"There's this dividing line between girls who have had sex, and girls who haven't. And all of a sudden you realize you're looking at each other across it."

- Angela on an episode of My So-Called Life

I used to hate that dividing line. It always felt awkward for some reason. It shouldn't have. People shouldn't feel pressured or rushed. That's my advice for today. Take it as you may.

It's Like Another Country - Not That I'd Know.

"Walking into someone else's house for the first time is like entering another country. Not that I've ever been to another country."

The Talk

"When I was 12, my mother gave me my sex talk. I'm not sure either of us has ever recovered."

Be Happy - Don't Just Pretend

"Sometimes I think if my mother wasn't so good at pretending to be happy she might be better at actually being happy."

A Teacher's Lunch

“Seeing a teacher's actual lunch is, like, so depressing.”

Angela on My So-Called Life

This quote has been running over and over in my head whenever I have to eat lunch with my students.

It comes from a TV show where a teenage girl is asked to stay after class by a teacher. The teacher asks her if she minds that she eats while they talk because she doesn't get a lunch on Tuesdays.

I wonder if my students think the same thing when they see my lunch.

Stop Talking Now

“If only there were a button somewhere that I could push. To force me to stop talking.”

Angela on My So-Called Life
What a great quotation. Who hasn’t ever walked away from a conversation and said something very similar to this inside their head? I know I’ve silently yelled at myself to “stop talking” before. But it never seemed to work

Snappy Comeback

Angela is a 15 year-old kid and her mother is talking to her about how much orange juice she just drank.

Patty, “Orange juice doesn't grown on trees, Angela.”
Angela “It sorta does.”

Great snappy comeback from the kid. I love it!

Stupid…Echoes

"You know how sometimes the last sentence you said, like, echoes in your brain? And it just keeps sounding stupider? And you have to say something else just to make it stop?"

Just Be

“People are always saying you should be yourself, like yourself is this definite thing, like a toaster. Like you know what it is even. But every so often I'll have, like, a moment, where just being myself in my life right where I am is, like, enough.”
- Angela on My So-Called Life
